Professorship of Education: Notice

The Board of Electors to the Professorship of Education invite applications for this Professorship. The Professorship was established in 1938 and has most recently been held by Professor Paul Hirst (1971 to 1988) and Professor David Hargreaves (1988 to 2000). This is an outstanding opportunity for an innovative educator to take a leading role in developing the Faculty's commitment to improvement in the quality of teaching and learning and to the development of a more informed, intelligent, thoughtful, and just society. Candidates should have a recognized international reputation which may be in any field of Education and a focus, either directly or indirectly, on the enhancement of learning would be of particular interest to the Electors.

The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University. The University is committed to equality of opportunity.

Further information may be obtained from the Deputy Secretary General of the Faculties, University Offices, The Old Schools, Cambridge, CB2 1TT (e-mail ibise@admin.cam.ac.uk), to whom a letter of application, marked 'Confidential', including details of current and future research plans, a curriculum vitae, and a publications list should be sent, together with the names of two referees, so as to reach him not later than 28 January 2002.
