REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICE BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:

Education Studies Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 279)

With immediate effect

The purpose of the amendments is to include in Schedule II the subject Mathematical Sciences comprising papers from Part I of the Mathematical Tripos and Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos. The Faculty Board of Education are satisfied that no candidate's preparations for the examination in 2002 will be adversely affected by these amendments.

SCHEDULE II. SUBJECTS AND PAPERS FOR SECTION IV OF PART II OF THE EDUCATION STUDIES TRIPOS

Mathematical Sciences

A candidate wishing to offer a single paper in Mathematical Sciences may offer one of the following options:

either (a) one paper from among the papers set for Part IA of the Mathematical Tripos, not previously taken by that candidate in Part I of the Education Studies Tripos;
or (b) a written report of between 8,000 and 10,000 words, or the equivalent, on an approved topic in Mathematics Education;
or (c) a computational projects note-book, submitted in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 9 of the Mathematical Tripos;
or (d) the paper 'History of Science' from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos;
or (e) the paper 'Philosophy of Science' from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos.

A candidate wishing to offer two papers in Mathematical Sciences may offer one of the following options:

either (f) any two of the papers offered in options (a)-(e) above;
or (g) Experimental Psychology (both the written papers and the submission of practical note-books) from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos.

A candidate who wishes to offer this subject in Part II of the Education Studies Tripos but who has not previously offered the subject Mathematics in Part I may do so only with the permission of the Faculty Board of Education.
