Research Officer or Research Associate (Pricing Electricity Transmission Systems) in the Department of Applied Economics

The Department wishes to appoint a researcher for a Cambridge-MIT-funded project modelling electricity trading arrangements and pricing the transmission system. The work requires a postdoctoral researcher, or someone with a Master's Degree and relevant work experience, with a background in Economics and Engineering or Physics, and experience of economic modelling. We welcome applications from candidates who would consider combining appointment to this project with related consultancy work.

The appointment will be for two years from 1 January 2002, or as soon thereafter as possible, on the age-related salary scale of £17,451 to £26,229 a year.

Research Facilitator in the Council of the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences

The Council of the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences wish to invite applications for a new post as Research Facilitator, with the purpose of promoting and enhancing social science research across the University.

The post will be based in the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences, but its services will be available to social scientists working in institutions outside the formal boundaries of that School.

The Research Facilitator will be appointed in an unestablished capacity of Research Associate or Senior Research Associate on a fixed-term part-time (0.5) three-year contract. The salary scale for the post is £17,451 to £26,229 pro-rata (Research Associate) or £22,299 to £32,215 pro-rata (Senior Research Associate).

The successful applicant will have: a proven track record of participating in funded research, both as an individual and, preferably also as part of a collaborative team; knowledge of the social sciences research environment; good interpersonal and team working skills; the ability to initiate new ideas, motivate others, and respond flexibly and sensitively to the needs of others; good IT and communication skills.
