Needham Research Institute

DIRECTORSHIP

On the retirement of Professor Ho Peng-Yoke, the East Asian History of Science Trust intends to appoint a full-time Director of the Needham Research Institute.

The Director will be responsible for providing intellectual leadership and overseeing the researches of the Institute. The Trust intends to strengthen its endowment to facilitate further expansion, and the Director will be expected to provide leadership in developing the research plans of the Institute and to be active in fundraising across the world. The Director's qualifications must include a proven international reputation for research in the study of the history of Chinese science and civilization, together with administrative ability and experience in fundraising. The Director will report to the East Asian History of Science Trust and attend its meetings (normally three times a year). He or she will chair the Publications Board, which is responsible for making recommendations with regard to all aspects of publications, including volumes in Science and Civilisation in China and the accompanying monograph series.
