She or he will be expected to undertake research and to contribute to the teaching of the University's Department of Social Anthropology.

Candidates should hold a relevant University degree and, ideally, have significant experience and/or a postgraduate qualification in social anthropology or museum studies. Applications (ten copies, or one only from overseas candidates) should be sent to the Secretary to the Appointments Committee, Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology, Downing Street, Cambridge, CB2 3DZ, to arrive not later than 7 January 2002. They should comprise a detailed letter specifying the candidate's areas of anthropological and museological expertise, a comprehensive curriculum vitae with a list of publications, and the names and addresses of three referees whom the Appointments Committee may approach for a confidential assessment of the candidate's suitability. It is anticipated that interviews will be held in Cambridge in late January 2002, with the successful candidate starting work as soon as possible thereafter.
