Notices by Faculty Boards, or other bodies concerned, of changes to the form and conduct of certain examinations to be held in 2002, by comparison with those examinations in 2001, are published below. Complete details of the form and conduct of all examinations are available from the Faculties or Departments concerned.

Chemical Engineering Tripos, Part IIA and Part IIB, 2002

The Chemical Engineering Syndicate give notice that, with effect from the examinations to be held in 2002, the form of the examinations for Parts IIA and IIB of the Chemical Engineering Tripos will be changed as follows:

Part IIa

Each paper will contain seven questions divided into three sections. In each paper, candidates will be required to attempt five questions, including at least one from each section.

The form of Paper 1 and Paper 4 will be unchanged.

Paper 2

Section A will contain two questions on corrosion and materials. Section B will contain two questions on fluid mechanics and two questions on two-phase flow. Section C will contain one question on calculus.

Paper 3

Section A will contain two questions on heat transfer. Section B will contain one question on multi-component staged processes and two questions on advanced continuous contacting processes. Section C will contain one question on optimization and one question on statistics.

Part IIb

The form of Paper 1 will be unchanged.

Paper 2

This paper will contain nine questions. Section A will contain three questions on granular materials and soft solids. Section B will contain three questions on reactor modelling. Section C will contain three questions on fluid mechanics. Candidates will be required to answer four questions choosing from only two of the Sections A, B, or C.

Paper 3

This paper will contain nine questions. Section A will contain three questions on surface science and catalysis. Section B will contain three questions on combustion. Section C will contain three questions on polymers. Candidates will be required to answer four questions choosing from only two of the Sections A, B, or C.

Paper 4

This paper will contain nine questions. Section A will contain three questions on advanced bioprocessing. Section B will contain three questions on stochastic modelling. Section C will contain three questions on rheology and process innovation. Candidates will be required to answer four questions choosing from only two of the Sections A, B, or C.
