19 November 2001

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that an extraordinary Congregation will take place on Wednesday, 5 December 2001, at which the following Honorary Degree will be conferred:

Doctor of Law

Dr KIM DAE-JUNG, President of the Republic of Korea, holder of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Timetable

It is expected that members of the University and their guests will need to be in their places in the Senate-House not later than 11.25 a.m. The Congregation will end at about 12.30 p.m.

Dress

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that Wednesday, 5 December 2001, will be a scarlet day, and requests that Doctors in the several Faculties wear their festal gowns. Hoods are not worn at this Congregation. In accordance with Regulation 4 for academical dress (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 186) any member of the University (other than the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, High Steward, Commissary, Proctors, Registrary, Orator, Esquire Bedells) who is a graduate of another university or degree-awarding institution, may, on this occasion, wear the academical dress appropriate to that degree.

Admission to the Congregation

Admission to the Senate-House will be strictly by ticket only. The only entrance on this occasion will be by the South-East Gate, from King's Parade. No tickets will be issued for admission to the Yard only. All members of the University are invited to apply for admission tickets, and, if they wish, for one guest ticket in each case.

Applications for tickets, which must be made in writing, and must give the full names and addresses of all those for whom tickets are requested, should be sent to Mr Geoffrey Skelsey, Principal Assistant Registrary, at the Old Schools, as soon as possible. Applications cannot be made in person or by telephone. Tickets will be allocated strictly in the order in which applications are received. Applicants will understand that there may be more applications than places are available. Further details of the arrangements will be included with the tickets. Tickets are not transferable.

Flags

The Vice-Chancellor also requests that the University flag be flown on Wednesday, 5 December, from University buildings having flagpoles.
