Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies

LIBRARIAN

The Governors of the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies invite applications for the position of Librarian, to succeed Brad Sabin Hill who has been appointed Dean of the Library and Senior Research Librarian at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, New York. The Librarian will take charge of the Centre's library and archive (the Leopold Muller Memorial Library) located at Yarnton Manor, Oxford, from 1 January 2002, or as soon as possible thereafter. Appropriate experience in librarianship, as well as knowledge of Hebrew and other relevant languages, cataloguing, and automation, are essential. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and direct new developments over the next few years and to give close guidance to a small staff of assistants. Candidates with scholarly accomplishments in some aspect of Hebrew and Jewish Studies may be offered concurrently a Fellowship at the Centre. The appointment will be initially for a period of five years, renewable, subject to periodic review, until retiring age. Salary is negotiable within the University Librarianship Grade 3 scale, according to age and experience.
