Reports of the Council on the Unified Administrative Service: Notice of a ballot

29 October 2001

In their Second Report on the Unified Administrative Service (Reporter, p. 23) the Council published a further revision of the regulations for the Unified Administrative Service. This revision was a result of discussions held with the proposers of amendments to the regulations submitted under Grace 1 of 20 June 2001 (Reporter, 2000-01, p. 906). In the Second Report the Council, as required by Statute A, VIII, 9, requested the Regent House to approve their decision not to authorize the submission of the original amendments. A Grace (Grace 3, p. 144) seeking this approval has now been submitted. The Council also gave notice that, subject to this approval being granted, they would arrange for a ballot on Grace 1 of 20 June 2001 under Regulations 8, 9, and 13 of the regulations for Graces and Congregations of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 113).

The Council now give notice of the proposed timetable for the ballot which will take place if the present Grace is approved. The ballot will include three options (i) to approve Grace 1 of 20 June 2001 unamended, (ii) to reject the Grace, (iii) to approve the Grace as amended in the Council's Second Report. The Council recommend that the Regent House vote in favour of option (iii). A vote on Grace 2 of 20 June 2001 will be taken by ballot at the same time.

In connection with the ballot on these Graces the Registrary will arrange for the printing and circulation of any fly-sheet, signed by ten or more members of the Regent House, which reaches him by 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 21 November. Fly-sheets must bear, in addition to the signatures, the names and initials (in block capitals) of the signatories (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 117). Voting papers and fly-sheets will be distributed to all members of the Regent House on or before Friday, 30 November; the last date for the return of voting papers will be Monday, 10 December.
