University Lecturers and University Assistant Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for an initial period of three or five years, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £22,299 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £34,390.

Appointments made at University Assistant Lecturer level will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The statutory limit of tenure of a University Assistant Lectureship is five years, but all holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer are considered for possible appointment to the office of University Lecturer during the course of their tenure. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Assistant Lecturer is £19,486 a year, rising by six annual increments to £24,193.

University Lecturer (Clinical) in the Department of Psychiatry

University Lecturer in General Adult Psychiatry, with an interest in neuroimaging, at Consultant Level, in the Department of Psychiatry, to take up appointment as soon as possible. The successful applicant, who will be recommended for an honorary consultant contract with the Addenbrooke's NHS Trust, will be required to undertake teaching, research, and clinical work. The appointment will be for five years in the first instance.

The successful candidate will be eligible to receive an additional payment for clinical responsibility related to the amount of NHS work undertaken. If, as expected, the Lecturer undertakes the equivalent of six or more NHS sessions a week of clinical work, the payment will be such as to bring his or her total pensionable emoluments into line with a point on the NHS salary scale for consultants (£50,810 to £66,120).

University Lecturers in the Department of Zoology

Behavioural Biology

Applications are invited for two Lectureships in Behavioural Biology to be held in the Sub-Department of Animal Behaviour in the Department of Zoology, starting on 1 October 2002. The Lectureships will be part of a collaborative programme of research with the Department of Biological Anthropology on brain evolution, aimed at integrating genomics and the complexity of the environment in which animals develop and evolve, initially supported by a ten-year grant from the Leverhulme Trust.

The Department has strong research groups in the neural, genetic, and endocrine mechanisms involved in social behaviour and learning of birds and mammals, and in Evolutionary Biology, Cell and Developmental Biology, and Ecology. The prime criteria for appointment will be academic excellence, a demonstrated ability to carry out research of international stature, and a commitment to excellence in teaching.

Cell and Developmental Biology

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship in Cell and Developmental Biology in the Department of Zoology, to take up appointment as soon as possible.

The Department has strong groups in Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Neurobiology, Evolutionary Biology, and Ecology. We now seek to extend and strengthen our vigorous programme of research and teaching in Cell and Developmental Biology. The prime criteria for appointment will be academic excellence, a demonstrated ability to carry out research of international stature, and a commitment to excellence in teaching.

University Lecturers or University Assistant Lecturers in the Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law are seeking to appoint two University Lecturers or University Assistant Lecturers to take up appointment from 1 October 2002, or as agreed. Each appointment may be at either University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer level. In respect of one post, preference may be given to candidates whose interests lie predominantly in the field of Labour Law. The other post is without preference.

The Faculty are seeking appropriately-qualified individuals to teach at undergraduate and possibly postgraduate level, to conduct and supervise research, and to participate in the general work of the Faculty. Information about the Faculty can be found at http://www.law.cam.ac.uk/.

Posts in the University Offices

General Board Division

Administrative Officer, Grade I or II (Department of Land Economy)

Applications are invited for the post of Administrative Officer for the Department of Land Economy.

Land Economy is a lively and fast-growing interdisciplinary department, with its primary interests in economics, the environment, and resource management. The foundation disciplines are law and economics, and associated disciplines include planning, geography, finance, and statistics.

Candidates should be educated to degree level and have previous relevant experience in an administrative post, with proven ability in managing resources and staff, preferably gained in a higher education establishment.

Appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time. The appointment will be made at either Administrative Officer Grade I or Grade II level, according to experience. Salary scales for a Grade I Officer range from £24,193 to £29,414, and for a Grade II Officer, from £20,267 to £26,229.
