Merton College

CHAPLAIN

Applications are invited from graduates who are ordained priests of the Church of England (or of a Church in full communion with it) for the post of Chaplain, for a fixed period of five years, with an initial review after one year, from 1 September 2002.

The Chaplain is fully responsible, subject to the direction of the Governing Body, for the administration and organization of the life of the Chapel, and for leading its services, both regular and occasional. The College has a strong musical and concert tradition, and it is expected that the Chaplain will maintain and encourage this.

The Chaplain must be pastorally available to all members of the College, regardless of faith, and will be required to act as co-ordinator of the College's welfare bodies.

The Chaplain will become a Fellow and member of the Governing Body. He or she will also have the opportunity of pursuing scholarly interests during vacations, provided this does not interfere with his or her duties as Chaplain.

The stipend will be at the age-related point on the University Lecturer scale, with a cap at age 33, currently between £20,267 and £25,203 a year, together with free meals and a book allowance. Rent-free accommodation will be made available.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, together with a short supporting statement setting out their suitability for the post. The names of two referees should also be included, who should be asked by the applicant to send their references to the Warden's Secretary, Merton College, Oxford, OX1 4JD (tel. 01865 276373, e-mail moira.wise@admin.merton.ox.ac.uk). Further details are available from the Warden's Secretary. Both applications and references should be received by 23 November 2001.
