Equality Agenda: Notice

15 October 2001

In the Easter Term 1999 the Council and the General Board approved an audit of the operation of the University's Equal Opportunities Policy, which was carried out in 2000. The Council published the audit report in January 2001 (Reporter, 2000-01, p. 409, see also http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/personnel/equality/) together with an agreed immediate action plan.

Central points which emerged from the report included the need to strengthen the University's leadership and management structures and the need to ensure that neither the University's culture nor its procedures have an adverse impact on people with disabilities, members of minority ethnic groups, and women and other under-represented groups

A number of developments have taken place since the audit report was published and information about these may be found on the Personnel Division website at the address given above. They include:

(i) a report of a briefing seminar for heads of institutions held on 21 May 2001;
(ii) launching web-based Employment Guidance for all those involved in the recruitment and selection of staff;
(iii) induction training for heads of institutions;
(iv) recruitment and selection training for all staff;
(v) revision of the University's policy on equal opportunities and employment.

Additional news will be regularly announced in the Reporter and posted on the website.
