Education Tripos

REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICE BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, they have approved amendments of the regulations for certain University examinations, as follows:

SCHEDULE OF SUBJECTS AND PAPERS FOR SECTION I OF PART I OF THE EDUCATION TRIPOS

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 272)

With effect from 1 October 2001

The purpose of the amendments is (i) to make provision for an additional combination in papers in History and Philosophy of Science from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos and (ii) to take account of changes in the Theological and Religious Studies Tripos.

The Faculty Board of Education are satisfied that no candidate's preparations for the examination in 2002 will be adversely affected by these amendments.

Natural Sciences

By inserting in sub-paragraph (c) the following option as option (6) of Group I:

(6) Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the papers in History and Philosophy of Science from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos. (This option cannot be combined with option (2) in Group II.)

Religious Studies

By amending the detail so as to read:

Three papers and a dissertation, as follows:

(a) Either (i) two papers from among the papers set for Part I of the Theological and Religious Studies Tripos (New Regulations);
  or (ii) two papers from among the papers set for Part IIA of the Theological and Religious Studies Tripos (New Regulations);
and      
(b) either (i) a further paper from among those set for Part I (New Regulations) or the Part IIA (New Regulations) of the Theological and Religious Studies Tripos;
  or (ii) *Paper R1. Women's voices in religion;
and      
(c) A dissertation on a topic in Religious Studies prescribed by the Faculty Board of Education. Such a dissertation shall conform to the requirements of Regulation 12(b) of the Education Tripos; its length shall be between 5,000 and 7,000 words, inclusive of notes and appendices.

With effect from 1 October 2002

Geography

The purpose of the amendment is (i) to replace Paper G1 in the current Schedule with course-work.

By amending the detail so as to read:

Three papers and course-work as follows:

(a) Any three papers chosen from Papers 1-10 of Part IB of the Geographical Tripos;
and
(b) course-work (amounting to between 5,000 and 7,000 words, inclusive of notes and appendices) related to Part IA or Part IB of the Geographical Tripos except for any papers taken under (a) above.
