The Managers give notice that one or more Raymond and Edith Williamson Studentships will be offered for the academical year 2002-03. A Studentship is open to any person who is, or is about to be, registered as a Graduate Student in the University, and who intends to undertake advanced study or research in the history of biological sciences, including medicine. The Managers are also willing to consider applications for small grants in connection with research in these areas from persons affiliated to the University.
A Studentship will be tenable for one year in the first instance: a Student will be eligible for re-election, up to a maximum tenure of three years. The value of a Studentship will be determined by the Managers, taking account of any other financial resources available to the Student; the maximum value will be £4,000 a year. Recipients of Raymond and Edith Williamson Studentships will be required to submit a brief annual report to the Secretary of the Fund by 24 June each year.
New applications must be accompanied by (a) a clear statement of the course of advanced study or research that the applicant proposes to pursue; (b) a full curriculum vitae; (c) a full financial statement, including details of any other funds granted or applied for; and (d) the names of two referees, who should be asked to send references direct to the Secretary of the Fund by 24 June.
Applications for renewal should be accompanied by (a) the report of the year's work; (b) a full financial statement, including details of any other funds granted or applied for; and (c) the name of a single referee, normally a supervisor, who should be asked to send a reference direct to the Secretary by 24 June 2002.
All applications should be received by the Secretary of the Fund, Department of History and Philosophy of Science, Free School Lane, Cambridge, CB2 3RH by 24 June 2002.
