University of Oxford

PROFESSORSHIP OF NANOMATERIALS

The electors intend to proceed to an election to the Professorship of Nanomaterials with effect from as early a date as may be arranged. This new Chair (made available by the appointment of Professor Brian Cantor, formerly head of the Department of Materials, as Head of the new Mathematical and Physical Sciences Division from October 2000) is intended to bring new activity to Oxford and fill gaps in expertise, to lead an expansion of the Department's activities into this exciting new field, with an emphasis on bio-nanomaterials, and to contribute to the Department's teaching and administration as appropriate. The appointment will enable the University to capitalize on developments that have taken place in recent months in related areas of the University. An interdisciplinary research centre in bio-nanomaterials is in the process of being set up; a new Chair in Chemical Biology is being filled; and there is much progress towards setting up new research institutes at the Begbroke Business and Science Park. A non-stipendiary Fellowship at St Anne's College is attached to the Professorship.

Applications (ten copies, or one only from overseas candidates), naming three persons who have agreed to act as referees on this occasion (with postal and e-mail addresses and telephone/fax numbers), should be sent to the address below, not later than 15 October 2001.

LINACRE PROFESSORSHIP OF ZOOLOGY

The electors intend to proceed to an election to the Linacre Professorship of Zoology with effect from as early a date as may be arranged. The Professor should be a zoologist. There is no restriction as to field of study within this general area, although it would be hoped that the research interests of the appointee would complement and enhance the existing strengths of the Department of Zoology as set out in the further particulars.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Merton College is attached to the Professorship. Applications (ten copies, or one only from overseas candidates), naming three persons who have agreed to act as referees on this occasion (with postal and e-mail addresses and telephone/fax numbers), should be sent to the address below, not later than 29 October 2001.

READERSHIP IN THE HISTORY OF MEDICINE AND DIRECTORSHIP OF THE (OXFORD) WELLCOME UNIT FOR THE HISTORY OF MEDICINE

The electors intend to proceed to an election to the Readership in the History of Medicine with effect from as early a date as may be arranged.
