Graces to be submitted to the Regent House at a Congregation on 24 February 2001

The Council have sanctioned the submission of the following Graces to the Regent House at a Congregation to be held on 24 February 2001:1

1. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon SYDNEY BRENNER, C.H., F.R.S., Ph.D., Director of the Molecular Sciences Institute, Berkeley, formerly Director of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Fellow of King's College.

2. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Law honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon MAMPHELE ALETTA RAMPHELE, Managing Director of the World Bank, formerly Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town.

3. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon ROBERT GEOFFREY EDWARDS, C.B.E., F.R.S., M.A., Emeritus Professor of Human Reproduction, Fellow of Churchill College.

4. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon Sir SAMUEL FREDERICK EDWARDS, F.R.S., M.A., Ph.D., Emeritus Cavendish Professor of Physics, Fellow of Gonville and Caius College, formerly Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

5. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon JOHN ANTHONY POPLE, F.R.S, M.A., Ph.D., Trustees' Professor of Chemistry, North-Western University, Honorary Fellow of Trinity College.

6. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon MARGARET ATWOOD, C.C., F.R.S.C., writer.

7. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon MICHAEL FRAYN, B.A., Honorary Fellow of Emmanuel College.

8. That the title of the Degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa be conferred under Statute B, IV upon DAVID KELLOGG LEWIS, Professor of Philosophy, Princeton University.

That the following person be admitted to the degree of Master of Arts by incorporation:

9. CHARLES PATRICK LARKUM, Fellow of Sidney Sussex College, Master of Arts of the University of Oxford (1975).

That the following persons be admitted to the degree of Master of Arts under the provisions of Statute B, III, 6:

10. AJIT SINGH BHALLA, Fellow of Sidney Sussex College.

11. EVELYN ANN LORD, Fellow of Wolfson College, Tutor at the Board of Continuing Education.

12. SUSAN ELIZABETH CURRYER, Senior Assistant Treasurer in the University Offices.

1 It is expected that these Honorary Degrees will be conferred at the Congregation to be held on Friday, 15 June 2001 (see the Vice-Chancellor's Notice, p. 466).
