Overseas Research Students, ORS Awards Scheme, 2001: Notice by the Board of Graduate Studies

ORS Awards cover the difference between the tuition fee for a home postgraduate student and the 'full-cost' fee chargeable to an overseas postgraduate student.

New Awards under this scheme will be offered on a competitive basis to overseas students:

(a) who have been admitted, either conditionally or unconditionally, by the Board of Graduate Studies to commence full-time research for a research degree during the academical year 2001-02;

or

(b) who are currently registered Graduate Students, are paying 'full-cost' fees without an ORS Award, and expect to continue full-time research for a research degree during the academical year 2001-02. (It should, however, be noted that those for whom the academical year 2001-02 will be the third year of their research degree will not normally be considered eligible.)

The University's nominations for Awards must be made to Universities UK by 29 May 2001.

It is therefore essential that any overseas undergraduate, Affiliated Student, or postgraduate student not already registered as a Graduate Student who proposes to commence research for a research degree during the academical year 2001-02, and wishes to be considered for an ORS Award 2001, should submit his or her application for admission as a Graduate Student (the CIGAS forms) to the Board of Graduate Studies as soon as possible and not later than 13 March 2001. Candidates for admission who are eligible to be considered for an Award will then receive from the Board of Graduate Studies a form of application for an ORS Award 2001 (Form ORS/1) for completion and return to the Board by 27 April 2001 at the latest. Wherever possible, candidates should submit ORS applications well in advance of the deadline.

Any current Graduate Student, who believes himself or herself to be eligible to apply for an ORS Award and who has not received an application form by the end of February, should get in touch with the Secretary of the Board of Graduate Studies, 4 Mill Lane, Cambridge, CB2 1RZ; other awards for which certain current students may be eligible are described in the accompanying Notice.

Prospective applicants for an ORS Award and their advisers are asked by the Board of Graduate Studies to note that competition for nominations is likely to be severe.
