The Council have considered the remarks made at the Discussion of this Report on 10 October 2000 (p. 99). Dr Evans queried the procedure followed in the filling of this Professorship. The Council confirm that the standard procedure for the filling of Professorships such as that in the present Report, where the University was required, as part of the procedure of an external funding body, to nominate an individual for the Chair, was followed. The Professorship was advertised and the names of applicants and others were considered by an Advisory Committee that included external representation before an individual was selected to be put forward for the competition.
The Council are submitting a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 7, p. 231) for the approval of the recommendations of the Report.
