Philosophical Society

Professor A. Clarke, of the British Antarctic Survey, will deliver a lecture, entitled Life at the edge: the evolution and adaptation of polar organisms, at 8.30 p.m. on Monday, 6 November, in the Cockcroft Lecture Theatre, New Museums Site. All who are interested are invited. There will be a short business meeting before the lecture.

At a meeting held on 23 October, Professor A. Howie, President, was in the Chair. Professor A. H. Wyllie, FRS, of the Department of Pathology, delivered a lecture, entitled Apoptosis in carcinogenesis. A vote of thanks was moved by Dr A. J. Munro

On Monday, 9 October, Professor Peter Goddard, FRS, presented the William Hopkins Prize for 1999 to Professor Paul Townsend, FRS.
