Computer Officer, Grade II (Systems Specialist: NetWare and Networks), in the University Computing Service

The University Computing Service, which provides computer facilities and related services in support of research and teaching, has a vacancy for a Systems Specialist, to take up appointment as soon as possible, to support Novell NetWare and associated network technology. The successful candidate will work in a small team providing systems support for a set of general access computer rooms and classrooms, which are a major element of the University's IT provision. These rooms contain Windows NT and Macintosh workstations, supported by NetWare servers.

The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of, and several years' experience with, NetWare 4 or 5, NDS, IPX, TCP/IP, and, ideally, programming in a NetWare environment.

Experience in any of the following areas would be an advantage: Windows NT Workstation or Windows 2000, network security, switch and server management, ftp support, server hardware, tape backup systems, ZENworks (server aspects), Macintoshes, and Pcounter print management. The ability to work well as part of a team is essential.

The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time, or, when appropriate, to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Officer, Grade II, is £24,227 a year, rising by four annual increments to £28,275.

Administrative Officer, Grade II (Major Building Projects Finance Officer), in the University Offices (Finance Division)

Applications are invited for the position of Major Building Projects Finance Officer within the Finance Division. The purpose of this post, which reports to the University's Tax Manager, is to ensure, on behalf of the Finance Division, that there is adequate financial control of all building projects over £1million; that building projects have sufficient funding in place before proceeding; that funding shortfalls during construction are identified and reported; and that all projects are vetted for tax efficiency.

The post-holder will be required to have contact with a wide range of people both within and outside the University. An ability to communicate effectively with good interpersonal skills is therefore essential. The ideal candidate will be educated to at least 'A' level, with previous experience of working with ORACLE Financials and a good working knowledge of accounting practice and convention.

The appointment will be for an initial period of three years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time. An Administrative Officer who has reached the maximum of the scale of stipends may be reappointed to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade II, is £19,482 a year, rising by six annual increments to £25,213.
