Cambridge University Malaysia Society

The Cambridge University Malaysia Society is organizing a one-day conference, themed Malaysia in the new millennium, on Saturday, 7 October at the Lady Mitchell Hall. The keynote speaker is the Malaysian Prime Minister, The Honourable Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad. Other speakers include the Malaysian Central Bank Governor, the Chairman/CEO of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia, the Newton Trust Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Politics, University of Cambridge, the Executive Chairman of the Multimedia Development Corporation, and the Minister in the Malaysian Prime Minister's Department.

Topics of the various sessions include the knowledge economy, the multimedia super corridor, banking reforms, globalization and free trade, as well as democracy and civil liberties. The conference aims to bring together key policy-makers, academics, students, and corporate officials in discussion on current issues affecting Malaysia as well as many other developing countries.
