Movement Analysis Project

The project will be based in the School of Health Sciences and the newly-opened Behavioural Brain Sciences Centre. A new posture and gait laboratory has been provided and equipment includes a six-camera motion analysis system and forceplates. Different methods of evaluation of functional movements will be compared in healthy subjects, and in patients following stroke.

Applications are sought from good honours graduates (or higher degree) in physiotherapy, psychology, sports science, or other related subjects. The student will be registered in the School of Health Sciences with links to the Centre for Studies in Sensory Motor Neuroscience in the School of Psychology, with Professor Alan Wing as joint supervisor of the student. The Studentship is for three years from October 2000, with a stipend of £6,500 a year. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to augment his or her income by assisting with undergraduate teaching.

Collaborative Industrial Studentship in Psychology and Rehabilitation Engineering

The School of Psychology and Wittenstein Aktiv Technologies Ltd, Bristol announce a collaborative Studentship, starting in September or October 2000 and leading to a Ph.D. Degree in Psychology and Rehabilitation Engineering. The Studentship, which covers tuition and a maintenance grant, is open to candidates from the UK and EU and will be based in the Sensory Motor Neuroscience (SyMoN) research group in the Behavioural Brain Sciences Centre. Applicants should have, or be expecting, a good undergraduate degree (first or upper second) in Science or Engineering and should have programming skills.
