Two Clinical Lecturers/Specialist Registrars in Paediatrics in the School of Clinical Medicine

The two substantive posts are four-year appointments, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The persons appointed will be of the standard required for an honorary contract of service with the NHS Executive Eastern Region as a Specialist Registrar, of at least year three level or greater. The specification for these posts relates to interests in endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism, and growth across the infant and childhood spectrum. Expressions of interest in medical education are also welcome. There is a major emphasis on research for which adequate protected time is provided. The Lecturers share teaching commitments and undertake clinical duties as appropriate to their training requirements.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Clinical Lecturer is £24,070 a year, rising by ten annual increments to £41,615.

Keeper of Antiquities in the Fitzwilliam Museum

Keeper of Antiquities in the Fitzwilliam Museum, to take up appointment on 1 January 2001, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Keeper will be responsible for all aspects of the work of the Department, which contains approximately 27,000 antiquities from the Mediterranean, Near East, and the Nile Valley. Applicants should be specialists in the art and archaeology of at least one of the areas covered by the collections and should have appropriate museum experience. An interest in teaching would be an advantage. The appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Keeper is £21,597, rising by ten annual increments to £32,095 (subject to review).

Administrative Officer, Grade I (Assistant Management Accountant), in the University Offices (Finance Division)

Reporting to the Management Accountant, the main functions of the job are to provide financial advice, management information, and support to the University's Council institutions (including central administration). The University is implementing the Oracle Financials accounting system, which will make considerable improvements to the production of financial information at the University; the role will include supporting the ongoing development of management information and project work across the University, along with other members of the Management Accounts Team.

Applicants should be part-qualified accountants, with excellent PC skills and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. In addition, applicants will preferably have at least three years' experience gained working in a large organization, as well as experience of providing financial advice and information to non-finance staff at all levels. The University will assist with completing professional qualifications, if necessary.

Appointment will be for an initial period of three years, unless that requirement is waived by the Council, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time. An Administrative Officer who has reached the maximum of the scale of stipends may be reappointed to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade I, is £22,579 a year, rising by five annual increments to £27,451.

Temporary Assistant Lecturer in the Faculty of Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy wishes to make a fixed-term appointment at Assistant Lecturer level, from 1 October 2000 to 30 September 2001. The successful candidate will be required to give forty lectures, to supervise graduate students, and to examine.

The salary will be on a scale equivalent to the University Assistant Lecturer scale, £17,238 - £22,579 a year, depending on age and experience.

Computer Officer in the Cambridge Programme for Industry (CPI)

Cambridge Programme for Industry (CPI) is the University's professional development unit. Located centrally, it was founded in 1988 as part of the University's policy of forging closer links with industry and the professions. CPI works with prestigious partners in the delivery of its learning programmes. It draws on the rich expertise and scholarship of the University and mobilizes thought from the best minds and institutions globally.

CPI is seeking a full-time Computer Officer to begin work as soon as possible. The person appointed will be responsible for the development and management of computing equipment and networks within CPI. As a key member of the Central Services team, the Computer Officer will be available to assist staff with problems on a daily basis as well as play a leading role in new technical developments and new ways to apply these technologies to teaching and collaboration.

The ideal applicant will have good knowledge of the following: Windows NT Server and Workstation; Windows NT Domain administration; and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Lotus Notes administration, HTML, and Perl CGI is highly desirable. Familiarity with Linux Firewalls and online learning environments would be a bonus. The salary is up to £24,479 a year, depending on age and experience, with the possibility of promotion after one year, depending on responsibility and performance.

Deputy University Safety Adviser in the University Offices (Safety Office)

Applications are invited for the post of Deputy University Safety Adviser, to take up appointment as soon as possible. The person appointed will deputize fully for the Director of Health and Safety in providing a safety advisory service to all sectors of the University. Applicants must be fully competent in health and safety practice and management and have several years' experience in a significant safety role in a university or research establishment.

Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate that they possess: the personal stature to secure commitment to safety; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to work effectively at all levels throughout the organization; the ability to provide realistic and practical solutions based on an assessment of risk; the ability to generate confidence with students and staff at all levels; and drive and enthusiasm for health and safety excellence. Candidates must also have a first degree, ideally in a scientific or engineering subject, hold a recognized safety qualification, and be a member of appropriate professional bodies.

Assistant Management Accountant in the University Offices (Finance Division)

Applications are invited for the post of Assistant Management Accountant (Staff Bureau) in the Finance Division. Reporting to the Finance Training Officer, the post-holder will be a key member of a new temporary accounting staff bureau for Departments throughout the University. The University is implementing the Oracle Financials accounting system, which will make considerable improvements to the production of financial information at the University. This will significantly increase the requirement to provide Departments with University-trained temporary finance staff to cover leaves of absence, vacancies, etc. The post-holder will work closely with departmental staff and will provide direct temporary accounting assistance and support to Departments, as necessary.

Applicants should be part-qualified accountants, with excellent PC skills and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. In addition, applicants will preferably have at least three years' experience gained working in a large organization in a financial background. The University will assist with completing professional qualifications, if necessary. The salary will be in the range £18,915 to £24,479.
