Joint Report of the Council and the General Board on changes to the M.B.A. Degree: Notice

12 June 2000

The Council have considered the remarks made at the Discussion of this Report on 30 May 2000 (see p. 766). They welcome the comments by Professor Dawson about the opportunities for lifelong learning and increased access for very able students offered through the proposed collaboration with FTK in providing web-based instruction. The Council and the General Board believe the Report emphasizes that safeguards are in place with respect to course content, assessment, and quality control, which would be the responsibility of the Judge Institute of Management Studies.

In response to Dr Evans's concerns about the implications for residence requirements they point out that the periods of instruction in Cambridge for the new M.B.A. Degree are similar to those required for students for the M.St. Degree. In response to her comments on delegation of authority the Council refer again to their previous Notice (see above and p. 392).

The Council have agreed to promote a Grace (Grace 13, p. 837) for the approval of the recommendations in the Report.
