St Catherine's College

STIPENDIARY LECTURERSHIP IN PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY

The College proposes to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in Physical Geography from October 2000, for one year in the first instance, renewable for a further two years. The appointment will be for up to ten hours a week, depending on the expertise of the candidate, and may be associated with partial additional funding from collaborations with staff at the School of Geography and the Environment.

The Lecturer will be required to teach (in tutorials and classes) up to ten hours a week on average in the eight weeks of each full term. In addition, he or she will be expected to play a full role in the running of the Honour School of Geography, including participation in the admissions process, the setting and marking of College examinations, and the pastoral care of undergraduates.

The Lecturer will be expected to teach across a broad range of topics for the First and Second Public Examinations in the courses at Oxford involving Physical Geography (including biogeography, climatology, human impacts on the environment) and Geographical Techniques (statistics, remote sensing, and general IT skills). He or she will also be expected to run revision classes in the core subjects and to do such special paper teaching as falls within his or her research areas.

A teaching room will be available. The Lecturer will be a member of the Senior Common Room and he or she may take ten meals a week during full term and four meals a week outside term, free of charge. The stipend for 1999-2000 is up to £13,600, and will be pensionable.
