RESEARCH ASSISTANT AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER (MATERNITY LEAVE COVER)

Applications are invited for two full-time positions at the Centre for History and Economics based at King's College. Both persons appointed will be working with two collaborative international research programmes, on globalization in historical perspective, and on poverty and inequality.

The person appointed as Research Assistant will have academic experience, some working knowledge of languages, and will take an active interest in international policies. The Centre co-ordinates several research projects and the person appointed will be expected to maintain and, on occasions, initiate communication with individuals at Harvard University and in France, Sweden, India, and Russia.

The successful candidate for the position of Administrative Officer will be appointed to cover for maternity leave, with the possibility of an extended contract following a review at the end of the initial period of eight months. The person appointed will be expected to help co-ordinate research projects, draft reports, and also to help with the management of the office and answer day to day queries from students, academic staff, and visitors attached to the Centre.

These are demanding and challenging positions which require a range of skills. It is expected that the persons employed will have exceptional planning and organizational skills, along with discretion, diplomacy, and a willingness to take initiative. The administrative and clerical skills required will include good typing and computing skills and familiarity with the Internet, e-mail, and general office practices. Excellent interpersonal skills, combined with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, are also required. The salary for both positions will be equivalent to the appropriate University scale, depending on qualifications, age, and experience. The positions are pensionable.
