Applications are invited for the following University offices:

Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Clinical Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, to take up appointment as soon as possible. The person appointed will be required to undertake clinical work, teaching, and research. The post provides an exciting opportunity for an individual with previous research experience to obtain their CCST and will include five sessions a week dedicated to training in academic medicine. The post is recognized by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for specialist registrar training.

The appointment will be for four years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Clinical Lecturer is £24,070 a year, rising by ten annual increments to £41,615. The Clinical Lecturer may be eligible to receive a non-pensionable payment for extra clinical work. Interested candidates should contact Professor S. K. Smith (tel. 01223 336871).

University Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy

University Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy, to take up appointment on 1 January 2001. The Department has research interests in numerous areas, from molecules to ecosystems, with particular strengths in Neurobiology, Development, Molecular Biology, and Imaging at cellular and tissue levels. It is interested in candidates working in the area of cellular, developmental, genetic, or systems neurobiology. The appointment will also carry teaching responsibilities in Neuroscience for which clinical experience would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Appointment will be for five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £20,811 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £32,095.

Senior Assistant in Research in the Department of Social Anthropology

The post is in Inner Asian Studies and will be linked to the Mongolia and Inner Asia Research Unit at the Department. Applicants will normally be expected to have a doctorate or significant publications in Social Anthropology related to Inner Asia.

The post will be for the period 1 October 2000 - 30 September 2003, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Senior Assistant in Research is £18,185 a year, rising by five annual increments to £22,579.

Research Assistant in the Institute of Criminology

The Institute of Criminology is seeking to appoint a temporary research assistant to work on policy and systems analyses of the English sentencing system (broadly defined to encompass prosecution through to parole). The project is funded by the Home Office and directed by the Director of the Institute, Michael Tonry. Training in law, policy analysis, and statistical analyses of criminal justice system data is desirable. The appointment is for twelve months from July 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. The pensionable salary will be in the range £16,286 to £18,185 a year.
