Geographical Tripos, Part II, 2001: Notice by the Examiners

The Examiners for Part II of the Geographical Tripos give notice that, for the examination to be held in 2001, the Papers to be offered will be examined as shown below (see Reporter, p. 531). The following terms are defined:

(i) 'Three-hour examination': The Paper will be examined by a conventional unseen three-hour examination in which candidates will be asked to attempt three questions from a choice of not less than nine questions. The Paper will be undivided.
(ii) 'Two + 1 examination': The assessment of such Papers will consist of a conventional three-hour examination in which candidates will be asked to attempt two questions from a choice of not less than six questions. The Paper will be undivided. In addition, there will be assessed course-work to be submitted not later than the Division of the Easter Term in the year of the examination. The nature of the course-work required will be determined by the University Teaching Officer responsible for the co-ordination of the course, who will provide, at the first lecture of the course, written details of the procedures which will be followed. The course-work will be equivalent to one question in quantity and for assessment in determining an overall mark for the Paper.
Paper 1. Human geography I: The restructuring of Britain. Three-hour examination.
Paper 2. Human geography II: Urban problems, planning, and policy. Three-hour examination.
Paper 3. A prescribed topic or topics in geography I: Spatial diffusion. Three-hour examination.
Paper 4. A prescribed topic or topics in geography II: The human geography of Latin America. Three-hour examination.
Paper 5. The geography of a prescribed area or areas I: The geography of Africa. Three-hour examination.
Paper 6. The geography of a prescribed area or areas II: The geography of the Post-Soviet States in transition. Three-hour examination.
Paper 7. Historical geography I: The geography of medieval Britain. Three-hour examination.
Paper 8. Historical geography II: The geography of France, 1815-1939. Two + 1 examination.
Paper 9. A prescribed topic or topics in geography III: The historical geography of the AIDS pandemic: demography, culture, politics, and space. Two + 1 examination.
Paper 10. A prescribed topic or topics in geography IV: The geography of Britain during the Industrial Revolution. Two + 1 examination.
Paper 11. A prescribed topic or topics in environmental geography: Biogeography and environmental management. Three-hour examination.
Paper 12. Physical geography I: Fluvial processes and the landscape. Two + 1 examination.
Paper 13. Physical geography II: Polar and glacial studies. Two + 1 examination.
Paper 14. A prescribed topic or topics in geography V: The geography of the ocean world. Three-hour examination.
Paper 15. A prescribed topic or topics in geography VI: Quaternary environments. Three-hour examination.
