UNIVERSITY OFFICES

Applications are invited for the following University office:

Computer Officer, Grade II or Grade III, in the University Computing Service

A post is offered in development and support of central information systems (World Wide Web and Usenet News). Specific expertise in Web and News services (including cache technology) is needed, together with a thorough understanding of Unix, both as a user and as a system administrator. Although web authoring is not a primary requirement, some understanding of common techniques would be an advantage.

The appointment will be at either Computer Officer, Grade II, or Grade III, level, according to age and experience. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time, or, when appropriate, to the retiring age.

The pensionable scales of stipends are:

Computer Officer, Grade II: £23,521 a year, rising by four annual increments to £27,451.
Computer Officer, Grade III: £18,915 a year, rising by six annual increments to £24,479.

Research Assistant in the Department of Land Economy (Property Research Unit)

The Property Research Unit in the Department of Land Economy works on a range of research projects in the fields of housing and planning. It is now looking to strengthen its team with an additional Research Assistant. The post is for fifteen months in the first instance. The starting date is 3 July 2000, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates should have a good degree in a relevant subject or postgraduate research experience. Knowledge of land use planning and housing issues, particularly those relating to affordable housing, would be an advantage, as would experience of data analysis, interviewing, and report writing. The salary will be in the range £16,286 - £18,185 a year.
