Christ's College

COLLEGE LECTURESHIP IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

The College is seeking to appoint a College Lecturer associated with a Bye-Fellowship from October 2000, to teach undergraduates in an area of Biological Natural Sciences, preferably in one or more of the subjects of Part IA Natural Sciences. The successful candidate is likely to hold a Ph.D. Degree and be working in one of the relevant University Departments, such as Zoology, Genetics, Plant Sciences, or Physiology.

The holder of the post would be expected to supervise Christ's College undergraduates for at least four hours a week during Full Term and might be asked to act as Director of Studies in biological subjects as appropriate.

The appointment will be for one year in the first instance and subsequently renewable for periods of three years. The successful candidate will receive the College Lecturer's fee, currently £867, plus the fee for supervision and directing studies. In addition, up to seven meals a week may be taken at the College's expense.

DOW RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN POLYMER SCIENCE

Applications are invited from Chemists, Physicists, and Materials Scientists with some postdoctoral experience for a Research Fellowship in Polymer Science, funded by the Dow Chemical Company. The Fellowship may be held for a maximum of four years. It is expected that the successful candidate will work in an area of research currently underway in the Department of Chemistry (including the Melville Polymer Synthesis Laboratory), the Polymer and Colloids Research Group (Department of Physics), or the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy. The successful candidate will be required to undertake 80 hours of College teaching a year in Chemistry, Physics, or Materials Science. Applicants should note that the Department of Chemistry has a strict no-smoking policy.

The stipend is incremental with the scale £17,152 to £22,466 a year, the starting point depending on age and experience. Research Fellows are entitled to seven free meals a week. Rooms may be available for Fellows who wish to live in. It is hoped that the successful candidate, who will normally be less than thirty years old, will take up the Fellowship on 1 October 2000.
