Applications are invited for the following University offices:

Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Medicine

The Clinical Lecturer will be required to engage in teaching, research, and clinical work, and to act as a Clinical Supervisor to a group of students throughout the clinical course. Applicants should have appropriate training and experience in General Medicine and should be of the standing required for an honorary contract of service with the appropriate NHS authority as a Specialist Registrar (SpR). Applicants aiming for dual accreditation in General (Internal) Medicine and Gastroenterology would be preferred. The appointment will be at Addenbrooke's Hospital but the possibility of a rotation to Norwich may be considered.

The appointment is for four years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Clinical Lecturer is £23,300 a year, rising by ten annual increments to £40,285. The Clinical Lecturer will be eligible to receive a non-pensionable payment for extra clinical work.

University Lecturers or University Assistant Lecturers in the Faculty of Law

Two University Lecturers or University Assistant Lecturers, to take up appointment from 1 October 2000 or as agreed. As regards one of these appointments, preference may be given to candidates whose interests lie predominantly in the areas of Tort or Equity. The other appointment is unrestricted as to subject. The persons appointed will be expected to teach at undergraduate level and may be expected to teach at postgraduate level. The persons appointed will also be expected to conduct and supervise research and to play a part in the general work of the Faculty. Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for three or five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

Appointments made at University Assistant Lecturer level will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The statutory limit of tenure of a University Assistant Lectureship is five years, but all holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer are considered for possible appointment to the office of University Lecturer during the course of their tenure.

The pensionable scales of stipends are:

University Lecturer: £20,811 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £32,095.

University Assistant Lecturer: £17,238 a year, rising by six annual increments to £22,579.

Computer Officer, Grade III or Grade IV, in the Department of Chemistry

Computer Officer, Grade III or Grade IV, in the Department of Chemistry, to take up appointment as soon as possible. The successful applicant will join a team of computer officers responsible for all aspects of the Department's computing needs, including installation and management of the Ethernet, system management of UNIX workstations and clusters, installation and maintenance of office hardware and software (PC and Macintosh), and offering advice to users. The main responsibility of the person appointed will be to provide system support for computers in the Theoretical Chemistry sector.

Candidates must have appropriate professional qualifications and relevant experience. Familiarity with UNIX system administration, including Linux, is essential. Appointment and reappointment will be for such periods not exceeding five years at a time.

The pensionable scales of stipends are:

Computer Officer, Grade III: £18,915 a year, rising by six annual increments to £24,479.

Computer Officer, Grade IV: £16,286 a year, rising by three annual increments to £18,915.

Computer Officer, Grade I (PC Support Manager), in the University Computing Service

The University Computing Service, which provides facilities and services in support of research and teaching, has a vacancy in the Technical User Services Division for a Computer Officer, Grade I (PC Support Manager). The successful applicant will be responsible for leading a small team which provides Microsoft operating systems and PC applications support to other technical staff and users throughout the University. They will be primarily responsible for the NT-Support Service and will be expected to contribute to the Service's TechLink programme, which provides targeted support to other IT staff within the University. The applicant will be expected to take a leading role in determining the Service's advice and policy in this area.

The applicant should have at least five years' experience in the delivery of IT support and training and must possess managerial and organizational skills. A background in an academic support environment could be an advantage.

The appointment will be for up to three years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time or, when appropriate, to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Officer, Grade I, is £19,869 a year, rising by twelve annual increments to £32,095. The starting salary will depend on age and experience.

Administrative Officer, Grade II (Grants Management Trainer), in the Research Services Division

The University's Research Grants number in excess of 3,000 with a total annual spend of over £110 million and are administered jointly by the Research Services Division and the Departments. The Departments book expenditure and provide on-site support to the researchers with the Division being responsible for communication with sponsors and performing a central co-ordinating role.

As part of the University's introduction of the Oracle Financials system in August 2000 the Research Services Division is currently in the process of implementing the Oracle Grants Management module. Applications are invited for the new post of Grants Management Trainer which has been set up to provide assistance to the users of the new Oracle Grants Management module both within the Division and for Departments.

The post-holder will be required to set up and operate a helpdesk facility to deal with specific queries, visit Departments to provide on-site help where necessary, prepare and conduct training workshops, and write published material such as general guidance notes and a user manual.

The post-holder must be able to work with and understand complex accounting applications. Knowledge of either Oracle Financials or Oracle Projects will be an advantage. Good verbal and written skills are essential together with an ability to work in a structured and methodical manner with minimal supervision. The post-holder should be educated to degree level with a minimum of two years' experience using complex accounting systems and with at least three years' experience working in a business environment.

It is hoped that this post will be established in the near future. The appointment will be made for an initial period of three years, unless this requirement is waived by the Council, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time. An Administrative Officer who has reached the maximum of the scale of stipends may be reappointed to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade II, is £18,915 a year, rising by six annual increments to £24,479.

Press Officer (Building Developments) in the Press and Publications Office

The Press and Publications Office is looking for a Press Officer to focus on new building developments within the University. You will work with the University's Estate Management and Building Service and other Departments, researching newsworthy building and architectural developments, and publicizing them to the national, international, and local media. A large proportion of your work will focus on the University's West Cambridge development.

You will have excellent writing and communication skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure. An interest in architecture or building would be an advantage. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, and the salary will be in the range £18,915 to £24,479, depending on age and experience.
