AWARDS BY OUTSIDE BODIES

Prospect magazine and the Economic and Social Research Council

NEW CENTURY ESSAY PRIZE

This new award, for previously unpublished works, is for academics and postgraduates working in the social sciences, and other studies in the political and social field. Entrants may choose from five themes or questions. Essays, which should be 3,000 to 5,000 words in length, should connect specific areas of research to broader political, social, and policy debates, crossing disciplinary boundaries where possible. Winners in each category will be awarded a prize of £5,000, with runners-up receiving £1,000. The winning essays will be published in Prospect magazine.

Further information about essay themes and the rules of entry may be obtained from Prospect magazine (tel. 01454 620070, e-mail newcentury@prospect-magazine.co.uk), or from the competition website (http://www.prospect-magazine.co.uk/).
