University College

SENIOR TUTOR

University College is seeking a full-time Senior Tutor for appointment as early as possible in the New Year. This is a new appointment. The Senior Tutor will be a Fellow of the College, but will not be required to undertake teaching or research duties. However, he or she will need to have academic sympathies and an academic background will be an advantage.

Reporting to the Tutorial Committee and the Governing Body, the appointee will be responsible for all academic matters concerning policy, interface with the University and academic departments, the appointment and employment of Fellows and other academic staff, the arrangements for admission of graduate and undergraduate students, and the administration of undergraduate teaching. The Senior Tutor manages and is supported by the College Office, consisting of a College Secretary and an Assistant College Secretary. The College Office also supports other academic officers of the College, principally the Dean and Dean of Graduates.

The salary will be in the range £40,000-£45,000 a year, depending on age and experience, plus meals within College and inclusion in the College's health insurance scheme. The initial period of appointment will be for five years, after which the incumbent will be eligible for consideration for further appointment. The latest retirement date is as for other University academic staff.

Further particulars may be obtained from the Master's Secretary, University College, Oxford, OX1 4BH (tel. 01865 276600, e-mail marion.hawtree@university-college.oxford.ac.uk), to whom applications should be made in writing, with a full curriculum vitae and the names of three referees, not later than 28 January 2000.
