Electronic calculators in University examinations, 1999-2000: Correction

The Chemical Engineering Syndicate gives notice that in the following examinations in 1999-2000 the only models of electronic calculators that candidates will be permitted to take into the examination room will be as follows. This notice supersedes that published on 21 July 1999 (Reporter, 1998-99, p. 867).

Chemical Engineering Tripos

(i) Part I and Part IIA

Candidates have the option of using the standard University calculator CASIO fx 100D, CASIO fx 115 (any version), or CASIO fx 570 (any version), and/or an advanced calculator specified as follows. The advanced calculator may be any 'fx' model of CASIO with a core numerical code less than 9951 (e.g., fx 9950G is acceptable) or any Texas Instruments 'TI' model with a numerical code less than 86 (e.g., TI 85 is acceptable). Other brands of calculator may be allowed for use but only with the written permission of the Secretary of the Chemical Engineering Syndicate whose decision is final.

(ii) Part IIB

Candidates have the option of using a calculator of their choice and/or the standard University calculator CASIO fx 100D, CASIO fx 115 (any version), or CASIO fx 570 (any version).

Students wishing to have the use of a non-standard calculator must bring it marked with their name and College, and with its memories already cleared, to the Department of Chemical Engineering between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the Thursday before the first paper of the relevant examination. Each student will be asked to sign a declaration that the calculator has been cleared of all stored material. A member of staff will check that no information is stored. After checking, the calculator will remain in the custody of the Department until the end of the last paper. On each day of the examination the calculator will be placed on the candidate's desk by the staff of the Department. The Department takes no responsibility for the malfunction of a calculator held in its custody during the examinations.
