PROFESSORSHIP OF GENERAL LINGUISTICS

The electors intend to proceed to an election to the Professorship of General Linguistics, which falls vacant upon the resignation of Professor J. T. Higginbotham, FBA, with effect from 1 October 2000 or such later date as may be arranged. The Professor should be a general linguist with an outstanding research record. He or she is likely to specialize in one of the major subdomains of linguistics, but should also have an interest in the description of individual languages and be willing to work with scholars from different schools of linguistics. A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Somerville College is attached to the Professorship.

Applications (ten copies, or one only from overseas candidates), naming three persons who have agreed to act as referees on this occasion, should be received not later than 11 October 1999 by the Registrar, University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JD, from whom further particulars may be obtained. WHITE'S PROFESSORSHIP OF MORAL PHILOSOPHY AND THE WYKEHAM PROFESSORSHIP OF LOGIC

The respective boards of electors intend to proceed to the following elections:

White's Professorship of Moral Philosophy, which is attached to a non-stipendiary Fellowship at Corpus Christi College, from 1 October 2000 or as soon after as may be arranged.

Wykeham Professorship of Logic, which is attached to a non-stipendiary Fellowship at New College, from 1 October 2000 or as soon after as may be arranged.

Applications (ten copies for each post, or one only from overseas candidates), naming three persons who have agreed to act as referees on this occasion, should be received not later than 1 November 1999 by the Registrar, University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JD, from whom the further particulars of each post may be obtained. WILDE PROFESSORSHIP OF MENTAL PHILOSOPHY

The board of electors for the Wilde Professorship of Mental Philosophy proposes shortly to begin the process of election to this Professorship which the University is making arrangements to establish as a replacement for the Wilde Readership of Mental Philosophy which will become vacant in October 2000.
