Notice of a benefaction

27 September 1999

The Vice-Chancellor begs leave to report to the University that he has accepted with gratitude a benefaction under the Will of Henry Scipio Reitlinger, M.A., of King's College, who died in 1950. The benefaction consists of a collection of ceramics, paintings, prints, drawings, and other works of art, together with an endowment for the maintenance of the collection. The University is to hold the collection on trust for the benefit of the public and the advancement of the study of art; it will be held in the Fitzwilliam Museum and will be administered by the Fitzwilliam Museum Syndicate in accordance with the provisions of Mr Reitlinger's Will as varied by two Schemes of the Charity Commissioners dated 4 January 1995 and 3 September 1996. The endowment received under Mr Reitlinger's Will is to form a fund called the Henry Reitlinger Fund; the Council are submitting a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 2, p. 23) for the approval of regulations to govern this Fund.
