COLLEGE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS, 1999-2000

NON-STIPENDIARY RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

Darwin College usually elects several non-stipendiary Research Fellows annually. This is an advance notice to advise that advertisements inviting applications for the Fellowships will be published in the Reporter in the middle of the Michaelmas Term 1999. Interviews will be held in March and elected Fellows will take up their post on l October 2000. The Fellowships are usually for two years in the first instance with the possibility of renewal for a third year. The Fellowships can be in any subject area.

Schlumberger Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship

A separate competition will be held for a non-stipendiary Schlumberger Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship in the fields of physical or biological sciences, mathematics, information sciences, or the social and economic aspects of technology and technology management. The competition will have the same timetable as the above non-stipendiary Research Fellowships although election can be from l June 2000 or a date to be agreed.

STIPENDIARY RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

In addition, two stipendiary Research Fellowships will be available from October 2000 and they will be advertised in the Reporter at the beginning of October 1999.

Adrian Research Fellowship

The Adrian Research Fellowship will be for research in Continental European Studies. The scope of Continental European Studies excludes work principally or exclusively focused on British material. Otherwise candidates may be engaged in research on any aspect (historical, literary, linguistic, political, economic, or social) within the area of Continental European Studies, either as specialists in particular fields or countries, or comparativists undertaking comparative studies between fields or between countries. The closing date for applications will be 22 October 1999; interviews will be held early in January and tenure will be from 1 October 2000 for three years in the first instance with the possibility of renewal for a fourth year.

Microsoft Research Fellowship

The Microsoft Research Fellowship will be for research in adaptive computing (including topics such as pattern recognition, probabilistic inference, statistical learning theory, and computer vision). The closing date for applications will be 15 October 1999; interviews will be held early in January and tenure will be from 1 October 2000 (or a date to be agreed) for three years in the first instance with the possibility of renewal for a fourth year.
