University stipends: Notice

5 July 1999

The Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) have made an offer of a 3·5 per cent across-the-board increase in the salaries of all non-clinical academic and academic-related staff. No final agreement has yet been reached between UCEA and the Association of University Teachers on this offer. Pending the outcome of further discussions at national level, the Council have agreed to propose that an increase of 3·5 per cent on account should be made in all relevant stipends and associated payments with effect from 1 April 1999, subject to the outcome of the national negotiations.

The Council are submitting a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 1, p. 823) for the approval of this proposal. The stipends of certain offices do not require the approval of the University; it is expected that, subject to the approval of the Grace, corresponding increases in these stipends will be approved by the Council or the General Board, as appropriate.
