Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies

PRESIDENT

The Governors of the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies invite applications for the post of President.

Founded in 1972, the Centre is an associated Centre of the University of Oxford and is at present engaged with the University in providing a new teaching and research unit in Hebrew and Jewish Studies. The President must possess the vision and ability to encourage the Centre's growth and development. He or she will have prime responsibility for its fundraising, administration, and public relations; leadership and management skills, and the ability to communicate at all levels, are essential for the post. Experience in the field of Hebrew and Jewish Studies is not a prerequisite: scholars from other disciplines and distinguished persons whose experience has been outside the academic world will also be considered. The salary is negotiable within the range of an Oxford University professorship.

The successful candidate, who will be expected to take office on 2 January 2000, or as soon as possible thereafter, will be provided with rent-free accommodation in the President's Lodgings on the Yarnton Manor estate.

Further particulars are available upon request from Mr D. J. Trevelyan, Chairman of the Search Committee, Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, Yarnton Manor, Yarnton, Oxford, OX5 1PY, to whom all applications, including a curriculum vitae, should be sent by 31 August 1999. Candidates should arrange for three referees to write directly to Mr Trevelyan by the same date; he would also be pleased to hear in confidence from individuals who might like to suggest names of appropriate persons for this post.

The Governors' choice will not necessarily be limited to those whose names come forward in this way.
