Education Studies Tripos

The regulations for the Education Studies Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 279) have been amended as set out below. The purpose of these amendments is:

(a) to substitute course-work for written papers in the examination for Section I of Part I (Education studies);
(b) to bring the numbering of the papers in Section III of Part II (currently entitled 'Subject studies and curriculum studies': to be retitled 'Professional studies') into line with the numbering of the corresponding papers in Part II of the Education Tripos;
(c) to provide differential examination requirements for candidates who take Part II after one year or two years.

The regulations have been amended, with effect from 1 October 1999, as follows:

Regulation 3.

By amending the regulation so as to read:

3. The following may present themselves as candidates for honours in Part II,1 provided that they have kept seven terms and that twelve complete terms have not passed after their first term of residence:

(a) a student who has obtained honours in Part I of the Education Studies Tripos or in another Honours Examination, in the year next after so obtaining honours, if he or she takes the examination under Regulation 14(a);
(b) a student who has obtained honours in any Honours Examination other than Part I of the Education Studies Tripos, in the year next but one after so obtaining honours, if he or she takes the examination under Regulation 14(b).

Regulation 12.

By amending the detail of Section I so as to read:

Section I. Education studies

Course-work related to the foundation disciplines of education.

Regulation 13.

By amending the detail of Section III and the succeeding paragraph so as to read:

Section III. Professional studies.

Paper 6. A subject in professional studies specified by the Faculty Board from time to time.

Papers 1-5 shall each be of three hours' duration. Paper 6 shall be of two hours' duration. The Faculty Board shall announce from time to time, subject to the provisions of Regulation 6, not more than four subjects for Paper 6; a candidate may offer not more than one of those subjects.

Regulation 14.

By amending sub-paragraphs (a) and (b) so as read:

(a) a candidate who takes the examination under Regulation 3(a)2 shall offer Section I and three written papers or other exercises chosen from Sections II-IV, at least one of which shall be taken from Section II;
(b) a candidate who takes the examination under Regulation 3(b),3 or a candidate who is an Affiliated Student and has been given leave by the Faculty Board to take Part II without having previously obtained honours in an Honours Examination, shall offer Section I and five written papers or other exercises chosen from Sections II-IV, at least two of which shall be chosen from Section II;
