Mathematical Tripos, Part III

The regulations for the Mathematical Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 325) have been amended as set out below. The purpose of this amendment is to allow greater differentiation in the classing of candidates for Part III by introducing an intermediate grade ('merit') below the level of 'distinction'. The regulations have been amended, with effect from 1 October 1999, as follows:

Regulation 22.

By replacing the last sentence by the following sentences:

In each list distinctive marks shall be attached to the names of those candidates who in the opinion of the Examiners deserve special credit. The mark (d) shall be used to denote a distinguished performance, and the mark (m) a meritorious performance.
