University Physician in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine

University Physician in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine to take up appointment from 1 August 1999. This is a clinical post with both service and teaching responsibilities. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the clinical services provided by the Farm Animal Unit, which is staffed by a Lecturer in farm animal medicine, a Resident, and an Intern and serves the Farm Animal Hospital, the University Farm, and associated farms. He or she will also participate in the final-year farm-animal studies clinical rotation and other small-group undergraduate teaching. The Physician will supervise the clinical work of the Resident and Intern and assist in other postgraduate training. Applicants must be members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Experience of farm-animal medicine and surgery is essential and a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Appointment will be made for five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

The pensionable stipend for a University Physician is £34,464 a year (under review).

Senior Research Officer in the Department of Applied Economics

Senior Research Officer in the Department of Applied Economics to take up appointment on 1 October 1999. The person appointed will be required to develop a strong programme of research in the field of applied microeconometrics related to household behaviour, with special reference to low-income developing countries. The appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment subject to continuation of funding.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Senior Research Officer is £20,107 a year, rising by nine annual increments to £29,048 (under review).

Junior Assistant Secretary in the Board of Continuing Education

Junior Assistant Secretary (Grade I) to take up appointment on 19 July 1999, or as soon as possible thereafter, to take responsibility for key areas of the central administration of the Board. Primary responsibilities will relate to all aspects of committee work, personnel matters, records, statistics and returns, including the annual HESES and HESA returns, staff training, central departmental services, safety, and security. It is expected that applicants will be graduates with broadly based experience, preferably in a university environment. The appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time, or, when appropriate, to the retiring age.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Junior Assistant Secretary (Grade I) is £21,815 a year, rising by five annual increments to £26,523 (under review).
