OXFORD NOTICES

All Souls College

FIVE-YEAR POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

The College intends to make an election to not more than two Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships on Saturday, 26 February 2000. The Fellowships are open to men and women in the following fields of study: Law, History, Philosophy, Economics, Politics, English Language and Literature, Classical Studies, Oriental Studies, and Mathematical and Theoretical Sciences. (All these subjects will be broadly interpreted: for example, 'History' includes the archaeology of prehistoric as well as of historic times; 'Classical Studies' includes all aspects of the study of classical antiquity.)

Applicants must have been awarded, or be advanced candidates for, a doctoral degree at any university. Applicants must be expecting to have completed the requirements for their doctoral degree by 1 October 2000. The purpose of the Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship is to enable junior scholars of the highest calibre to undertake further research, and to enhance their academic standing by substantial publication. In making an election the College will be guided by its judgement as to how far the candidate's achievements and prospects will meet the aims of the Fellowship, and it anticipates that candidates will not normally be older than thirty. The College is an equal opportunity employer, and consideration will be given to applications submitted by candidates who can demonstrate that the application of this age-limit would be inappropriate in their circumstances.

Further particulars may be obtained from the Warden's Secretary, All Souls College, Oxford, OX1 4AL. Applications must reach the Warden not later than Friday, 3 September 1999.
