OXFORD COLLEGES

Hertford College

STIPENDIARY LECTURERSHIP IN PHILOSOPHY

Hertford College proposes to elect a stipendiary Lecturer in Philosophy for two years from October 1999. The Lecturer's duties will be to arrange teaching in philosophy, and personally to provide teaching up to seven hours a week. Any teaching in excess of this will be paid at the standard per capita rates. The successful candidate will probably be studying for, or hold a doctoral degree. He or she will be expected to provide tuition for the philosophy papers set in preliminary examinations and Moderations, and at least Ethics and History of Philosophy for finals. Ability to teach some Ancient Philosophy papers would be an advantage. The Lecturer will also be expected to participate with other tutors in the admission and pastoral care of students of PPE and related schools.

The stipend will be at the Senior Tutors' approved rate of £8,642.08 a year (under review). The Lecturer may be eligible for membership of the Senior Common Room and will be entitled to free lunches if teaching in College and to two free dinners at the common table during term. The College will pay National Insurance and superannuation contributions, if applicable. The use of a shared teaching room will be provided.

Letters of application (including a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of teaching experience and research interests, and the names of two referees) should be submitted to the College Secretary, Hertford College, Oxford, OX1 3BW, by Friday, 4 June 1999.
