Graces submitted to the Regent House on 12 May 1999

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 115) will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 21 May 1999.

1. That the regulations for University Composition Fees be amended, with effect from 1 October 1999, as follows:1

Regulation 2.

By adding to the list of examinations and qualifications the entry 'Bachelor of Theology for Ministry'.

2. That, on the recommendation of the General Board, the regulations for Secretaries and Superintendents of Faculties, Departments, and other institutions under the supervision of the General Board be amended as follows:2

Regulation 2.

By amending the regulation so as to read:

2. There shall be five grades of the office of Secretary, Grades A, B, C*, C, and D. The grade of a particular office of Secretary shall be determined by the General Board after consultation with the Faculty Board or comparable authority concerned.

Regulation 4.

By replacing in the second sentence the words 'either Grade C or Grade D' by the words 'Grade C*, Grade C, or Grade D'.

Regulation 5.

By replacing the words 'the four grades' by the words 'the five grades'.

1 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 158. See the General Board's Notice, p. 591.

2 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 680. The present grading system for offices of Secretary of a Faculty or Department does not provide a sufficient number of gradations to cater adequately for the wide range of offices involved, whose responsibilities differ according to the size and scope of the institution concerned. It is proposed to introduce an additional grade, to be designated C*, between Grade C and Grade B.
