Bachelor of Theology for Ministry, 2000: Special subjects and prescribed texts

The Faculty Board of Divinity give notice that they have amended their announcement of special subjects and prescribed texts for the examinations in 2000 leading to the degree of Bachelor of Theology for Ministry (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 420; see also the General Board's Notice above, p. 591, and Reporter, 1997-98, p. 777). The Faculty Board are satisfied that no candidate's preparation for the examinations in 2000 is adversely affected by this late announcement.

The subjects and texts prescribed for the examinations in 2000 are now as follows:

Paper 1. Introduction to Biblical Hebrew

Paper 2. Elementary Hebrew

Genesis 37 and 40-45

Paper 3. Introduction to New Testament Greek

John 1-5

Paper 4. New Testament Greek

Mark 1-8

Paper 6. Introduction to the New Testament

Matthew 5.17-20; Mark 8.27-9.1; Luke 4.14-21; John 16.1-11; Galatians 3.6-14; Philippians 2.5-11; 1 Timothy 2.8-15

Paper 11. Further Old Testament studies

Genesis 1-11; I and II Kings; Daniel; Amos; Haggai and Zechariah 1-8

Paper 12. Further New Testament studies

Matthew; I and II Corinthians

Paper 17. Foundations for ethics

Medical, sexual, ecological, business, and conflict ethics

Paper 20. Special subject in New Testament theology

The Resurrection of Christ

Paper 22. Special subject in contemporary theology

Liberation theology, to include discussion of issues of class, race, and gender. Specified theologians: Allan Boesak, James Cone, Gustavo Gutierrez, Jurgen Moltmann, and Rosemary Radford Ruether

Paper 25. Applied ethics

Medical, sexual, ecological, business, and conflict ethics

Paper 35. Special subject in Biblical interpretation

Feminist perspectives in Biblical interpretation

Paper 37. Church and sacraments

Theology of the Eucharist
