The Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education: Notice

The Royal Anniversary Trust announced on 11 November 1998 that the University of Cambridge had been awarded one of the Queen's Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education for 1998, for an application made in respect of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences. The Citation stated that the Institute 'has made a huge impact in establishing the relevance of mathematics to a wide range of problems of acute public concern and in raising the profile of mathematics in the wider community. The University greatly reinforces the standing of UK mathematics in the highly competitive world arena.' The Prize Medal and Certificate were presented by The Queen on Thursday, 11 February 1999, at Buckingham Palace.
