Elrington and Bosworth Professorship of Anglo-Saxon: Notice

The Board of Electors to the Elrington and Bosworth Professorship of Anglo-Saxon invite applications for this Professorship, to take up appointment from 1 January 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter. The field of the Professorship covers the study of Anglo-Saxon languages and the languages cognate therewith together with the antiquities and history of the Anglo-Saxons. The person elected to the Professorship may be appointed Head of the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic, for a period not exceeding five years in the first instance. The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University. The University follows an equal opportunities policy.

The present pensionable stipend for a Professorship is £42,857 a year.

Candidates for the Professorship should send a copy of their application, marked 'confidential' together with the names of two referees, to the Secretary General of the Faculties, from whom further information regarding the Professorship is available, at the General Board Office, the Old Schools, Cambridge, CB2 1TT, so as to reach him not later than Friday, 9 April 1999.
