Applications are invited for the following University office:

Technical Officer in the Department of Physics (readvertisement)

Technical Officer in the Department of Physics to take up appointment as soon as possible. A well-qualified Electronics Engineer is required to work in the Astrophysics Group on the design and development of advanced astronomical instrumentation. Current projects in the group include millimetre-wave receivers for the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii, systems for measuring structure in the Cosmic Microwave Background, and aperture synthesis telescopes at optical wavelengths. A strong background in electronics, with qualifications to at least first-degree level, is required, together with knowledge of analogue, digital, and RF/microwave techniques, as well as familiarity with interfacing to microprocessors and computers and use of computer-aided design techniques. Applicants should have significant experience in at least one of these areas. The appointment will be for five years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Technical Officer is £17,570 a year, rising by five annual increments to £21,815.
