The Fulbright Commission

FULBRIGHT-ZENECA RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP, 1999-2000

The Fulbright Commission is pleased to offer a Scholarship in conjunction with Zeneca Pharmaceuticals for a postdoctoral scientist to conduct research at a top centre in the United States on an aspect of Cell Biology or Molecular Biology or Bio-informatics. The award is worth £15,000 plus round trip travel and is available for a minimum of ten months from September 1999. The successful candidate will receive medical insurance via Fulbright. Candidates should be UK citizens or resident in the UK. Candidates should note that any academic fees will be their responsibility.

Applications should include a letter of invitation from the US institution acting as host. Candidates should have or expect to have a Ph.D. Degree in a relevant area before departure to the US. Candidates will normally be expected to seek a career in industry on their return. The closing date for applications is Thursday, 18 March 1999. Interviews will be held in late April or early May.

The successful applicant will be issued with a J1 visa which requires the holder to return to the UK for a minimum of two years on completion of the Scholarship before applying for US work or residence visas (tourist trips are not affected). A report will be required at the end of tenure of the Scholarship.
